Fastest of its kind: New molecular biological test for the specific detection of EHEC bacteria

R-Biopharm (Darmstadt) has brought to the market the fastest assay currently available for the specific detection of enterohemorrhagic Escherichia coli (EHEC).

SureFood^® STEC rtPCR and RIDASCREEN^® Verotoxin kits for rapid detection of EHEC bacteria and toxins in food samples (June 8th)

Currently an increased number of diseases and suspected cases are linked to the intestinal, food borne pathogen EHEC (enterohaemorrhagic E. coli). Noticeable are the numbers of severe diseases with complications in adults. In some cases the disease leads to hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS), which resulted in kidney failure and even death. Various foodstuffs of animal as well as plant origin are suggested to be the source of this outbreak. Also the economic impact for the European farmers and trade -countries rejecting import of vegetables from Europe – is significant.

The new developed RIDA^®GENE EHEC/EPEC multiplex real-time PCR rapid assay enables the specific and direct detection of the lethal EHEC-bacteria in less than 2 hours.
